At the start of this year, I asked readers for the business application or initiative that helped them most during the past year. There was an enthusiastic response from my male audience, with geeky ideas galore from Google+ to Xmargin to Adobe Creative Cloud.

The ladies stayed shtum so I scouted out the stuff (on or offline) that work for the fairer sex. Here’s a few ideas:

Maggie Langley, founder of Office Hounds:

1. Podio – Online work platform for collaboration and project management in one central place with tasks, calendar, contacts, activity stream, webforms and ability to create custom ‘apps’ quickly as needed. Free!

2. Uservoice – free for one use feedback, helpdesk, and knowledge base management tools

3. Zopim – free instant message support chat for websites. When website support is not logged in, users can leave a message. See it on bottom right corner of www.crowdpatch.co.uk

The writer of Tales from Turkey, Josie Maguire:

“Definitely social media – Twitter has top place as it led me to The Scoff & Quaff Show a superior show for listeners who are passionate about food and suppliers in Kent. It also lead me to the Business Bunker Show with Paul Andrews & Jules Serkin & so building solid business relationships with other small business’s in Kent.”

My Biz Goal for 2014 is: To integrate more into Women in Business activities and groups and to complete my 2nd book in the series Tales from Turkey.

Hilary Steel, Editor of Kent Women in Business Magazine:

“The best ‘thing’ to have helped me in 2013 was working with an amazing Business Mentor, Bev James – totally changed the way I ‘perform’”

My Biz Goal for 2014 is:  To complete my first novel!

It’s that time of year when the conference season gets back to life and one of my favourites is the Southeast Business Show as it brings together so many sectors of business and the whole spectrum of buyers, sellers and products – more than 100,000 companies in total. I spoke with one of the sponsors on Kent Business Radio last week – Image Consultancy Services – and they’re gearing up for this year to be bigger than ever. The event is at the Millennium Conference Centre, Effingham Park, Gatwick RH10 3EU on Friday, January 24, 10am – 3pm. It’s free entry and parking.  Details on Twitter: @b2bsoutheast
