Ask anyone about their ideal job and then what they actually do, and you will usually get two very different answers.
On Channel Radio’s Business Bunker show we interviewed Nick Dufton who runs a company called Redspot HR and has a new service named Career Routeplan. It looks to match the right career to each person by using a psychometric test, and suggests ways in which the user can research and follow this path till they get into a meaningful and suitable career for them.
Most of the FTSE 100 biggest listed UK companies use psychometric tests to find out more information about the way a person thinks and acts in situations. The online test which Nick uses gathers up to 200 responses to multiple choice questions to identify the characteristics which help contentedness as well as challenges, and any job aspects to be avoided.
After scoring and creating the profile, the career matching begins. There are usually up to seven differing career lines suggested. The way forward is usually clear but Nick helps there too with a programme of activities to follow.
Nick will be testing out the service on my 17-year-old son so watch this space as I report from the frontline of psychometric testing.
