A team of Canterbury business people have raised £540.30 for the Canterbury Multiple Sclerosis appeal to fund the new centre, with building work due to start in March 2014.
Based at the Canterbury Innovation Centre for over two years, Doug Young and his financial services team at Wealth Planning Associates organised a day of golf at Canterbury Golf Club with local businesses enjoying the day followed by a presentation from Mary Daly, Chief Fundraiser for the MS Therapy Centre.
Managing Director Doug Young said: “I heard of the need to raise money for the MS Therapy Centre after my colleague Leo Wild saw a presentation by Mary Daly held at Lenleys monthly networking Tweetup some months ago. We really wanted to help and so organised this fun day of golf and dinner to raise some cash. We are hoping to make it an annual event.”
Frank Brake, the founder of Brake Brothers, a distributer for the food industry, is doubling all contributions up until December of this year.
On receiving the cheque, Mary, from Ashford, who herself has MS, said: “Thanks so much for this fantastic day of golf. I feel I was robbed of winning after 14 good holes! Seriously though our fantastic patron Frank Brake will double this amount of £540.30p to over £1,000, and we urge the businesses of Canterbury and surrounds to get involved as the money will be doubled up until December. We are due to start the building next March and need £200,000 to keep it running & we get no Government funding & no lottery money at all.”
