I mentioned some months ago that my charity of the year is the appeal for a local MS Therapy Centre for East Kent and I was delighted to see so many other businesses supporting the same cause.
Following a review with the charity’s patron, Frank Brake of Brake Brothers, the MS Appeal confirms it has hit the milestone of £1 million – placing it within striking distance of the £1.3 million needed to build a new centre for all those across Kent whose lives are affected by MS.
Frank Brake doubled all money raised for the appeal since February 2012 and pledged to keep doing so until the end of this year. “This fantastic amount has been achieved thanks to the hard work of our many supporters and the generosity of our wonderful Patron,’’ said Mary Daly, Chief Fundraiser. “We cannot be complacent though, we must keep our eye firmly fixed on our target and do all we can to raise £150,000 before the end of December. Frank will double this amount which will enable us to put the spade in the ground and make the dream of a new building a reality for all our members.”
The money will go entirely to building a new centre in the grounds of the Canterbury Rugby Club for east Kent’s thousands of MS sufferers.
The MS Appeal has a proposed start date for the new building of March 10, 2014.
Mary Daly from Ashford, is Chief Fundraiser and an MS sufferer. She said: ” At present we offer respite and day care in a prefab that is well past its sell by date. There are over 2,000 people with MS in east Kent, and this facility is pitifully lacking. We urge any local businesses to help us.”
